| Administrative History | Thomas Parker who invented Coalite, a brand of low-temperature coke used as a smokeless fuel, in 1904. Two years after his death, a production unit was opened near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, with two new plants in Doncaster and East Greenwich, London in the 1920s. The company's main manufacturing plant for much of its existence was opened at Bolsover in 1937, the head office moving from London to Bolsover in 1956.
By 1988, Coalite Group plc consisted of 15 separate companies/divisions including Charringtons Fuels Ltd, Dundee Perth & London Shipping Co. Ltd and The Falklands Islands Co. Ltd. |
