Description | On 15 February 1937, there was a major explosion at South Normanton pit, resulting in the deaths of eight men: Edwin Hill, Willis Lambert, John Marriott, Henry Willis, Everett Reeves, Frederick Pride, John Vardy and Percy Ansell. An inquest into their deaths was concluded on 15 March, with the jury unable to find the cause of the explosion. |
