Administrative History | In 1788, a canal was proposed to link the southern side of the Peak District to the Erewash Canal. Envisaged as a reliable and cheap transport system, the canal was supported by numerous lcoal businessemen including Sir Richard Arkwright, owner of the cotton mills at Cromford.
The canal was opened in 1794 and runs 14 miles from Cromford to Langley Mill. |
