Administrative History | The Almshouses were built in 1931 in memory of clergyman John Higgs, and made available to elderly people of the parish of All Saints, Matlock Bank. At one time the houses were known as "Smedley's Row" as the occupants had been staff at the nearby Smedley's Hydro. The Almshouses underwent an extensive renovation programme during the mid 1980s. |
