Administrative History
John George Metcalf joined the Hardwick Colliery Company at the age of 13 as a clerk, and rose to be Secretary & Commercial Director. With the onset of nationalization in 1947, a new company was formed called Hardwick Industries Ltd where Mr. Metcalf was appointed a director.
Mr. Metcalf also became a director of Holmewood Picture Palace Co. Ltd., was a past president of both the Cinematograph Exhibitor's Association and Chesterfield Bowling Club.
Custodial History
These papers were donated to Derbyshire Record Office in May 2008.
