Administrative History | Following the outbreak of the Second World War many communities on the 'Home Front' engaged in activities to show their support for local men in the armed forces. The Stonebroom Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen's Comfort Committee (as it became known) was established following a public meeting held at the Zion School on 5 February 1940. The organisation comprised representatives of the local Women's Institute, Zion Church, Baptism church and Bethel Church. The committee organised various events such as socials and organised a weekly collection to raise money for local servicemen. |
