| Administrative History | The Spencer family were residents of Belper, with Thomas and Eleanor Spencer, the parents of Florence and Hilda, managing the Seven Stars Public House in the town. Florence and Hilda Spencer each married in the 1920s, Florence to Thomas Myatt, a Belper resident, in July 1920, and Hilda to John Walter Kirkman, the son of George and Elizabeth (nee White) Kirkman, in September 1924. John and Hilda Kirkman went on to have two sons, Neville Spencer Kirkman, and Geoffrey Russell Kirkman. Neville married Gwyneth Briggs in 1955 and they went on to have two daughters, Margaret and Susan.
John Walter Kirkman's sister, Elizabeth, was born in Hulland Ward on 18 February 1889, the eldest of eight children. She married John Thomas Hemmings on 25 December 1911, with whom she had two children (born 1912 and 1918). By the time of the 1939 Register, John (a Permanent Way Inspector), Elizabeth and their son Wilfred, were living in Chapel-en-le-Frith. Elizabeth died in Wales, aged 87, in 1976. |
