Archive CreatorBlakiston family of London, Baronets
Administrative HistorySir Matthew Blakiston, 3rd Baronet (1783-1862) purchased Sandybrook Hall in 1825 (see D6730). He was succeeded by his son, Sir Matthew Blakiston, 4th Baronet (1811-1883), although he is described as a boarder in the 1881 census. By the time of the 1891 census the Turnbull family were living at Sandybrook Hall.
Custodial HistoryD6730/1-10 were donated to Derbyshire Record Office by a private individual in January 2007 having been purchased as part of auction lot.
D6730/11-12 were donated in April 2024 by a different member of the public who had purchased them at auction. The lots, described as 'bundle of papers' included items relating to other counties as well, only the Derbyshire items were donated. Other papers related to Derbyshire can be found under reference D1898, D3949 DA/FE/S/3 and DA/T/SNOR/1903.
ArrangementD6730/1-10: These items were bought as part of a lot in an auction. It appears that they generally relate to lands at Sandybrook, near Ashbourne, that were sold by Sir Matthew Blakiston in 1825. Due to the pagination, some of the items appear to have been part of the same document. It also seems as if they have been separated at some point. There were a number of pages as part of this accession which represented incomplete abstracts of title. As these did not contain sufficient contextual information (lands transferred, date of abstract etc) they have not been retained by the Record Office.
