Title
Railway Cottages Development, Derby
Description
These terraced cottages, situated opposite Derby Station and built by Francis Thompson between 1841 and 1843, had been proposed for demolition in 1979 to make way for a road scheme. The Trust was approached by Derby Civic Society who together lobbied the City Council to abandon its plans and sell the cottages to the Trust. A Conservation and General Improvement Area was set up and the cottages listed.
The project ran over three years and the renovated houses sold in batches to facilitate cash flow. The Brunswick Inn pub was also restored and sold.
