Description
First World War Papers
World War I diary written while on active service, letters, and service papers. The 61st Brigade played a major part in the Battle of the Somme by capturing Guillemont in September 1916. This is commemorated in the speech contained in these papers by the Earl of Cavan. The diary written by Willliam Weston vividly depicts the life of an ordinary soldier in the trenches during this period while the other papers record his military career in a more official context.
