Administrative HistoryJohn Wright of Nottingham inherited an estate at Ripley and Riddings in 1789 and became a partner in the Butterley Company, a position he held until his retirement in 1830. His two-thirds share in the capital of the Company passed to his descendants. In the mid 19th century, Osmaston Manor near Ashbourne was built for Francis Wright and remained in the family until 1883. It was then bought by Sir Andrew Barclay Walker and passed to his descendants, later called Walker-Okeover. They moved their family seat to Okeover Hall and Osmaston Manor was finally demolished in 1966. Francis Wright married Selina FitzHerbert of Tissington. These papers relate to their son, the Revd Marcus W Beresford Wright, later Osmaston and their grandson, John FitzHerbert Osmaston.
Custodial HistoryThese papers were donated to Derbyshire Record Office by a private individual in December 2004.
