Administrative History | The Society was formed in 1809, with the stated aims of establishing and raising a fund for the relief of sick and disabled members, their widows and children, encouraging "order, decency and regularity of behaviour", suppressing and discouraging "vice and profaneness", and promoting the faith and practice of true religion. A Master, two Wardens and twelve Councilmen were elected annually to run the Society |
