Administrative HistoryThis collection concerns two families, one from North Derbyshire and one from South Derbyshire, who became linked by marriage in 1944. The Mussons of Ticknall and Newton Solney were small farmers and their photographs are evidence of a way of life which has now largely disappeared. The Thickitts of Clowne lived in a village on the Derbyshire coalfield which retained much of its strong community character into the 20th century. Of particular interest are the photographs of Jean Ruth Musson (later Thickitt) and her colleagues in the Women's Land Army during World War II.
Custodial HistoryThese records were donated to Derbyshire Record Office by a member of the Thickett family at several dates in 2002 and 2003, by a Thickitt family member whose detailed information forms the last section of this list
