Belper and Milford Baby Show
Administrative History
The Belper and Milford Baby Show, held on Wednesday 25 Jul 1917 at the Belper River Gardens, was organised by the Belper Children's Care Committee in order to promote the current national Baby Welfare movement. A committee of ladies presided over the arrangements under the chairmanship of Mrs Maclean. Subscriptions were solicited from local people in order to pay for prizes, and 96 babies were entered for the competition in various classes. Exhibitions and demonstrations relating to suitable food and clothing for babies also formed part of the day. The opening ceremony was performed by Mr Strutt and the event also saw musical entertainments by schoolchildren from the National School and from a local orchestra. 1500 people attended.
