Further Information	G.M. Woodward Delin : March 1787 "Timon / Then be abhor'd - all feasts, societies and throngs of men." Spranger Barry (1717-1777) was born in Dublin, where he made his debut in 1744 at the Smock Alley Theatre, where he was playing alongside Garrick. He moved to Drury Lane in 1746, but there was intense rivalry between him and Garrick, and in 1750 he moved to Covent Garden. Although he died in 1777 a print of him playing Timon was published in Bell's edition of Shakespeare in 1776, and another print of him in the same role was published in 1780.
