Administrative HistoryWhitwell Colliery, near Worksop, was owned by the Shireoaks Colliery Co. Ltd. (Kelly's Directory (London, 1941), p.439). It was sunk in 1890 and deepened to a depth of 532m in 1924. Its Clowne and Two Foot seams produced 400,000 tonnes before major reorganisation in the 1950's. (E. Custodial HistoryThis item was donated to Derbyshire Record Office by a private individual in November 2000. This item belonged to the father of the donor, who worked at the colliery.
