Administrative History | Whitwell Colliery, near Worksop, was owned by the Shireoaks Colliery Co. Ltd. (Kelly's Directory (London, 1941), p.439). It was sunk in 1890 and deepened to a depth of 532m in 1924. Its Clowne and Two Foot seams produced 400,000 tonnes before major reorganisation in the 1950's. (E.
