Description | Thomas Pares was in almost daily correspondence with his unmarried sister Mary after he left home to go to Eton College. Letters exist from there, from Cambridge University, and from London during Thomas's time as an MP. In later years, Mary lived at Grooby in Leicestershire and corresponded with her brother at his homes at Hopwell Hall and Ulverscroft. It is possible that some of the letters in this series from before 1823 are actually from Thomas Pares' aunt, also called Mary Pares. There may also be stray letters from Thomas Pares' sister in law Mary (Tylston) Pares, from the 1830s onwards [see series D5336/3/217 for the full run of these letters] |
