Description
1. Evidence of Thomas, Bishop of Chester, that John, wife of John de Gayteford of Notts., formerly wife of Elias de Thoresby deceased, is the free and legitimate daughter of John de Wel(on?) and his wife Alice, to whom she was born at Chester. Dated at the Bishop’s manor of “Rosa”.
2. June 18 1597 Royal Writ directed to Francis Westbye and others concerning their claim in the manor of Elmton.
3. May 6 1600 Receipt from Cecilie rodes to her brother John Rodes Esq. for £628/10/- paid in respect of her “child’s part” appointed by her father Francis; with general release to John Rodes, Richard Wortley Esq. and Gilberte Lynacre Gent.
Wit. – George Chaworthe Esq., Anthony Millington, Godfrey Rodes, Thomas Claiton.
4. Oct. 8 1687 Bond from Zacharia Slater, grocer of London, to Martha Rodes, to indemnify her from all suits caused by Elizabeth Hathersedge of Staveley in respect of claims made by her in lands sold by Zacharias and Grace Slater of Barlborough to Martha.
Also – receipt from Z. Slater to M Rodes for consideration money.
5. Mar. 1 1689 Quitclaim from Paul Jenkinson of Walton Hall, Derbys., to Martin Rodes, of ½ a messuage in Barlbrough with lands there and in Killamarsh (field names given.)
6. Nov. 7 1693 Mortgage from Dame M. Rodes to Christopher Johnson of Claworth, Notts., of lands (field names) in Barlbrough.
7. Nov. 24 1694 Sale from Sir John Rodes to Robert Mowever of Woodseates, Derbys., of a messuage, cottages and lands (field names) in Gatesford, and a messuage in Shireoakes.
8. Nov. 23 1694 As 7. Lease for a year.
9. Hilary 1720 Fine at Westminster from Zacharia Slater to Sir John Rodes of a messuage etc. in Barlebrough.
10. Mar. 1 1723 “Articles and proposals for a sale of oak and ashwood lying within the manor of Hatfield … belonging to Dr Heathcote of Cutthorp.”
