June 11 1463 Grant from William Oxspryng Esq. and Thomas Anne to Isabella wife of John Gaytford Esq., of all lands, rents and services in Gaytford, which they lately held by fooffment of the said John, and which were lately of Thomas Chamberleyne of Redford. After her death, they are to go to Elizabeth, daughter and heir of the said John; if she die without bairn, to John Gaytford, son of Richard Gaytford (brother of the said John); next in succession, Joan (the younger John’s sister); Agnes sister of Joan; Isabella their sister; Elizabeth Comberton, wife of Thomas Comberton and sister of the elder John; heirs of the younger John. Thurs. in Easter week 1402 (Two copies) Grant from Thomas Walton, canon of Lichefeld, to William Walton, son of Margaret Hugen, of his manor of Tharlesthorp, and all his lands in Pubeley and Fonnteneyes; rent, a red rose on June 24. If William dies without heirs, the property to go to John Walton, son of Ibota Castell; then to William Walton, son of Joan Coldees; then to revert to Thomas himself. 7. Grant from Robert Clyfton knight and Gervase Clyfton Esq., his son, to John Gaytford Esq., Hugo Makerell Esq., William Barley Esq. and Thomas Coke, rector of the church of West-retford, to the use of the said John, of a messuage and 2 crofts called Parsoncrofts and 3 ½ ac. of land in Shyrookes, 4 lying opposite the said messuage and 1 ½ in Leatubbyng; also a toft and a croft called Longcroft, and 1a. 3r. of land in Gaytford; also all his messuages, lands rents and services in Shyrookes and Gaytford; in exchange for all lands of the said John etc. in Flixthorp and Harmeston. Oct. 2 1442 Grant and Conveyance from Robert Cutwolf, Prior of the Monastery of St. Mary de Novo Loco in Shirwod, Richard Westhall rector of the church of Cloun, and William Sylbe to Thomas de Grenegere, Joan his wife, and John Walton, son of William Walton and the said Joan, of all the lands in Tharlesthorp, Cloun, Romley, Pibley and Hewod which they lately hold by conveyance of John Cutwolf Esq.; to be held by Thomas and Joan till Joan’s death; then by John Walton; then, if he die without heirs, to the bairn of Thomas Walton. Oct. 28 1407 Grant from John Rygarden and Robert Tayor (Swyer?) to John Gaytford of Gaytford and Cecilia his wife, of all lands and rents in Gaytford, Wyrkesop, Kylton and Allurton; which they held by fooffment of the said John de Gaytford. Wit. – Hugo Cross, lord of Hodmark, Henry Peirpoint, Robert de Barley, Hugo Cross of of Owrootus, John de Carleton, Robert de Plumley, Hugo Drapur, Roger Bolar.
11. Aug. 18 1295 Letters Patent of King Edward (I) confirming grant from John de Fauounberge to Henry de Faucunberge his brother and Elen daughter of Robert de Hertford, of the manors of Catefosse in Yorks. and Barleburgh in Derbys., with permission to enfooff the said Henry of the manor of Cukeneye, which John holds of the King “incapito”.
12. Mon. before Apr. 23 1363 Agreement between Radulph sutor of Barleburgh and Dom. Roger de Cloune, rector of the church of Camsalo, whereby Radulph grants to Roger, for an unspecified sum, a park at le Storth in the West field of Barleburgh, lying between the land of John Coniodir (reading of this name not quite certain) and land formerly of Williams Milne, and abutting at one head on Radulf’s land. If Roger holds it after 9 years, he is to pay Radulf 6/8d. annually. Wit. – Thomas de Gounshill knight, Dom. William, rector of the church of Wytewell, Dom. Grant from Thomas de Morton to Walter Fipam of Gaytford, for an unspecified sum, of an acre of land in the field of Gaytford, which Thomas formerly bought of Robert son of Geoffrey of Gaytfoyd (sic.) lying between the land of Walter on the east side and the separate land of Walter (which he bought of the said Robert) on the west side; one head abutting on Gayteforyd towards the east and the other on Barleburg towards the south. Annual rent 1d. Sept. 21 1471 Grant from Thomas Trygot of Kyrkby, Yorks, to Isabella wife of Joh Sandforth Esq., of all his right of the manors of Gaytforth and Harewell, and all lands, rents, services and reverations in Gaitforth, Warewell, Foroop, Fylton, Eton, Mylnton, Litillrichome, Boyll and Ortonhall, and elsewhere in the county of Notyngham, which he lately had by grant of the said Isabella with John Nevile, count of Northumbria and Lord Montagu, Robert Nevile Esq., and Arbroeo Crecaore, lately deceased.. Aug 6 1401 Fooffment from Margery de Serlby widow, daughter of Elia Thoresby, to John de Gaytford and Joan his wife, for the lifetime of Joan, of all lands, rents and services in Notts., Yorks. and Lincs. which were lately of the said Elia, and which Joan held by fooffment of Mag. John de Waltham, lately “office.” Of the church of York, William de Gunthorp cleric, Mag. John de Walton, Elia de Thoresby rector of the church of Weston, John de Sandall later rector of the church of Ordsall, and Thomas de Harroworth of Blith. Also grant to them of all actions both real and personal. Wit. – The Prior 0f Blyth, the Prior of Hathsay, Hugo Cresty, Richard de Lancaster, Hugo de Harroworth. Dated at Everton.
21. Easter 1419 Lease from John Alferton Esq. to William de Walton and Joan his wife, of his manor of Tharllesthorp with Rubeley, Hewed being reserved to the said John; also 12 acres of land belonging to the manor, sown with diverse goods:- vis 3a with corn , 3a with barley, 3a with oats and 3a with peas. For 9 years at annual rent 1d. With right of cutting thorns, underwood, and branches of trees for the upkeep of the fences and ditches of the manor, and of cutting trees for housebobs and hayebots, without raising clearings or colling. He also conveys to them a plain wagon for 10/-, 6 oxon for 6 marks, a cart with all fittings and two draught-animals for 13/4d. and two wagons.

Apr. 14 1341 Grant from Brother Robert, Prior of Wyrkesop, and the monks there to John son of William de Gayteford, of common of herbage in their wood of Stodburghoved, for all kinds of animals except goats, throughout the year, except from Sept. 29 to Nov. 17. 23. 15th Cent. Grant from Richard Smyth, rector of the church of Norbury, and Henry Hill of Recayngton, to John Walton and Emmata his wife, of all those lands in Thorlesthorp, Pyfoley and Howed which they lately held by grant and conveyances of Thomas Grenegere, Joan his wife and John Walton.
24. Tues. after July 3 1397 Grant from Thomas Chamberleyne of Raddeford to Richard son of John de Gaitford of Gaitford, of 2 places of 2 tofts; one lying between a place of a toft of Dom. Furnyvall on each side, and abutting on le Turf kerr towards the south and on the King’s highway towards the north; the other at the eastern head of the vill of Gaitford, between the holdings of John de Gaitford on either side, abutting westwards on a road leading from le Waterland and eastwards on land of William Chamberleyne. Also a piece of wood called Wadelkerr lying between land of Dom. Furnyvall on the north and land of John de Gaitford on the north. Also 2 ½ bovates of land; one lying between land of Dom. Furnyvall on the east and land of John de Gaitford on the west, abutting on land of the Abbey of Wellebeck on the north and the king’s highway on the south; the other whole bovate with lo sype cage lying between monastic land of Walland Wels on the east and land of John de Gaitford on the west, abutting on the field of Carleton in Lyndrik on the north, and on lea Webes and lo Waterlane on the south; and the ½ bovate lying between les Wakes on the north and land of John de Gaitford on the south, on le Stonehill, abutting eastwards on Stedburgh head and westwards on the vill of GaiTford. (All these lands are in Gaitford.) Also a place of a toft and a bovate of land in Kawle, the former lying between a place of a fort of Dom. Furnyvall on the west and land of John de Gaitford on the east, the latter lying between lands of the same two men on the east and west, and abutting on le Westpastur northwards and land of John de Gaitford called Rortes (Portes?) southwards. And 3 roads of the same bovate lie on Whiteman toft, between land of Dom. Furnyvall on the south and land of John de Gaitford called le Housdwenge on the north; 3 roads lie in Hollevale between land of Dom. Furnyvall on the east and le Flat de Gaitford on the otherside. Also 1a. lying next to the ditch of Treniarr, abutting on Pednygate northwards and land of John de Gaitford southwards. Also a place of a toft called Wattonyard lying between Homaker Brigges on the west and a place of a toft of the Prior of Wyrkesop on the east; a piece of land and meadow called Hawkynfold lying between the pale of the park of Wirsop on the south and the King’s highway leading from Holmskerbrig, and abutting westwards of a stream, and eastwards on the common pasture of Trenkerr; and a piece of land and meadow called Dawfedun lying between a stream coming from Shirookes on the west and the common pasture of Trenkeff on the east, and abutting on a croft of the Prior of Wirkesop southwards and on land of John de Gaitford called Dalicroft northwards. And 1 ½ a. lie in Dalycroft between land of the Prior of Wirkesop on the west and land of John de Gaitford on the east, and abut on Faules earth northwards and on Dawfeld dun southwards; of which 2 (g?) acres of land lie between land of John de Gaitford and on one side and Kawles amothe on the other. Also a piece of wood called Dobbe Holt lying in Kaulestubbyng between Hologh lane on the south and land formerly of Bertram de Bullynbrok on the north, and 2 a. of land in the same place between land formerly of B. de Bolyngbruk on the south and land of the Prior of Wirkesop on the north; and 2a. in the same place, next to the long fence del Stubbyng on the north and land formerly of B. de Bullyngbroke on the south. Fri. after Feb. 14, 1397 Agreement between John de Gaitford of Gaitford and John son of Thomas Chamberleyn of Raddeford, that whereas the said John de G. is bound to pay annually to William Chamberleyn son of Thomas, of Raddeford, 2 marks of silver for lands which John and Joan his wife hold for life, by grant of William, in Wirsop, Gaitford, Shirokee, Kawlo and Holmekerr in the (word illegible) of Wirsop, the said John Chamberleyn will enfooff Richard, son of John de Gaitford, of all the said lands. And John de G. agrees to make a statement to John (son of Thomas) Chamberleyn concerning annual payment to him of 2 marks for life, which he pays to Dom. John, son of William.
