Oct. 10 1577 Grant from Ralph Pygott, yeoman of Connesbrughe, to Franncis Rodes of Staveley Wudthorpe, for £8, of a messuage or cottage and 3 r. of land in Great Hungerton, lately in the occupation of Thomas Elom, and all his lands there. With power of attorney to Francis Nevill to grant possession.
3. May 8 1586 Copy (contemporary) of Queen Elizabeth’s letter to the Earl of Shrewsbury containing her orders regarding the controversy between him and the Countess his wife.
4. Jan. 1 1587 Agreement between (a) Franncys Rodes and John his son (b) Atheline Rodes, daughter of Franncys, to pay £400 to Atheline when 20 years old, if she do not receive £400 according to terms of an agreement of Apr. 26, 1584, between (a) Franncys Rodes (b) Bryan Lassells, John Bradley and John Bassett Esqs., that an annual rent of £200 on lands (in Franncys’ demesne) of Franncys Molyneux, James Lynacre and Peter Barley Esqs., should for 16 years be assured as provision for his daughters Katherine, Mary, Trouthe, Elizabeth, Atheline, Cicilia, Judith and Brigitt, (each to receive £400). Also Franccys and John are to pay a further £100 to Atheline on marriage or reaching age 21. If Franncys dies before Atheline receives her £400, John Rodes is to pay her £10 per year (rent on his lands in Woodthorppe, Rowmeley and Oxcrofte) until she has received £400.
5. Oct. 1 1597 Bond in £1000 from Humfrey Pipe of Wallinge Wells, Esq. To John Rodes of Barlebroughe, Esq., to keep terms of award made by George Blunte, Thomas Waterhouse and Robert Waterhouse Esqs. Wit. – John Digbie, Thomas Milner, W. Crompton.
6. Oct. 12 1597 Axquittance from Franncys Hewett Jun. of Wales, Yorks., to John Rodes Esq., for payment of a yearly rent of £100 for 2 years from lands lately of James Linacre Esq., since his marriage with Bridgett, daughter of Francis Rodes; which Francis granted to her by indenture dated Apr. 26, 1584. Also quitclaim from Francys Howett to Richard Wortley Esq. of Wortley, Yorks, who purchased the said lands, of the annual rent of £100 from them, and of all claim in any of them. Wit. – John More, Franncis Hewitt, John Bennett, William Crompton.

Oct. 15 1597 Copy of Award by George Blownte Esq. of Eckington, Thomas Waterhouse Esq. of Braywell, Yorks., and Robert Waterhouse Esq. of Hartshill, arbitrators between John Rodes Esq. of Barlebroughe and Humfrey Pipe Esq. of Wallinge Wells, Notts. Concerning the advowson of Barlebroughe and other matters. 1. Humfrey to convey to Rodesthe advowson, rectory and parsonage of Barlebroughe by Sept. 29 following. 2. Rodes to pay Pipe £460. 3. Suits arising between James Stephenson of Normanton and Nicholas Denham of Bramwithe concerning the parsonage to cease. (Compare Cox, Derbyshire Churches, vol. 1, p. 52.)

10. May 28 1598 Sale from Humfrey Pipe Esq. to John Rodes Esq., of the Advowson of Barlebroughe al. Barleburghe, al. Barlbaroughe, for £460. (Copy) On the back is another copy of No. 1 (with spelling “Edward de Chandos”).
11. Trinity 1598 Fine at Westminster from Humfrey Pipe and Susanna his wife to John Rodes, of the advowson of the church of Barlbroughe, for £40.
12. Apr. at 1599 Lease from John Rodes to William Coulson his servant and Mary, wife of William, for 21 years, of the parsonage house of Barlebroughe will all lands appertaining. With “the parler with the dore outwards from the same beinge under the slated Chamber there”, which James Stevenson, parson of Barleboroughe, leased to John Rodes for 60 years by indentures dated Oct. 25, 1597. Annual rent, a red rose if demanded. The leases agree to plant part of the land with young trees.
13. 1599 Two letters to Sir John Rodes recommending Mr. Robert Jackson, parson of Beighton, for appointment as minister at Barlborough.
14. May 28. 1600 Sale from Humfrey Pipe Esq. to John Rodes Esq., for £460, of the advowson of the church of Barlbroughe.
15. Oct. 2 1600 Mortgage from John Rodes to James Cavendishe Esq. second son of William Cavendishe of Hardwicke, for £500 which his Grandmother Elizabeth Countess of Shrowsberie formerly gave him, of the advowson of the church of Barlebroughe; to be redeemed on or before Oct. 3, 1605, in accordance with terms of a quadripartite indenture of the same date, made between (1) the said Countess and William Cavendishe (2) Timothie Pusey and John Heywarde, servants of the Countess (3) John Rodes (4) John Benett and Robert Gilberthorpe, servants of Rodes.
16. Feb. 12 1601 Copy (contemporary) of deed of Sale from John Fanshawe gent. of London to John Rodes, of the rectory, church and advowson of Elmeton, lately of the (now dissolved) monastery of Thurgarton, with all messuages and lands belonging, in Elmeton or elsewhere in Derbys. Also a messuage in Elmeton lately in the occupation of John Townrowe; and John Fanshawe’s other lands in Elmeton.
17. Feb. 8 1602 Lease for 40 years from John Rodes Esq. of Barleborough to Arthure Swayne Gent. of Sarson, Hants., of the manor of Longstocke (part of the Duchy of Lancaster) with the customary work called Bedreppes (al. Beade-reppes) yearly by 12 tenants, 3 days in the harvest – viz. in cutting of corn and “Felling of hay”; and with 6 a. of meadow called Wilde al. Wide Mead al. Onndemeade; also 116 wether sheep of the royal stock, each of price 16d., and with the fishing of the Water of Longstocke and warren of conies, which was leased by the Queen, May 31, 1584, to William Poore for 31 years at annual rent 23/1/4, and on July 8, 1600, to Lucye Alley, widow, for 40 years, and by her sold to J. Rodes and Thomas Taylor, Gent., of London, on July 14, 1600, the said Thomas releasing his claim in it on Dec. 2, 1601.
18. Mar. 30 1605 Copy of marriage settlement whereby Sir John Rodes settles upon his wife Dame Francis, daughter of Katheren Moore, widow, of York, and on Marmaduke and William Constable, the advowson of the church of Barlebrough.
19. Sept. 30 1616 Lease from Bryan Heppenstall, parson of Barlbrughe, to Sir John Rodes, of tithes from lands and property in Barlbrughe inherited by Sir John.
20. May 24 1627 Confirmation by Brian Heppenstall parson of Barlborough, of his lease dated Feb. 6, 1616, to Franncys Butcher, blacksmith of Clowne, of tithes arising out of lands and property in Barlbrough.
