TitleBundle of papers relating to legal cases brought by Charles F White

DescriptionCharles F White (registration agent for the Liberal Party in the West Derbyshire parliamentary constituency, parliamentary candidate and member of Derbyshire County Council) brought various legal actions for slander following allegations of drunken-ness and 'pub-crawling' made against him at a public meeting in Cromford on 16 Nov 1911 and reported in the High Peak News. The actions were against Mr Joseph Henry Rose of Cromford for making the remarks, against E W Barnes for reporting them, against Mr Dunbar the editor of the High Peak News for printing them and against the Derbyshire Printing Co Ltd for publishing them. The case was taken to the King's Bench Division of the High Court of Justice in Mar 1913 and dismissed. The following year White brought an appeal, by which time he had been bankrupted by the costs of the case.
