West Derbyshire Liberal Unionist Association
Description
Victor C W Cavendish was Member of Parliament for West Derbyshire for the years 1891-1908. He stood for election on behalf of the West Derbyshire Liberal Unionist Association. He regularly paid subscriptions to voluntary societies and assoiciations within his constituency. This series of records seem to have been collected together or passed on Herbert Brooke Taylor, who acted as Cavendish's chief agent.
Victor Christian William Cavendish was born 31 May 1868, the eldest son of Lord Edward and Lady Emma Cavendish. He later succeeded his uncle to become 9th Duke of Devonshire in 1908. He had married Lady Evelyn Fitzmaurice in 1892. He went on to hold several government posts, including those of Governor General of Canada , 1916-1921, and Secretary of State for the Colonies, 1922-1924. He died on 6 May 1938.
