Administrative History | The Padley Group was established to support people who were disadvantaged in the areas of homelessness, employment, disability and substance abuse. The group comprised three elements: 1) The Padley Day Centre, providing day care facilities for homeless and distressed people. In 1984, the CSR decided to take over the Bridge House premises, and received permission from the Bishop’s Council to found a day centre there for homeless and distressed people. Preparations for the centre were handled by a steering group, chaired by the Archdeacon of Derby. This group handed over responsibility for the centre to a Management Council in 1986. 2) The Peartree Craft Centre, providing employment training for people with disabilities or who had been unemployed for a long time. 3) Talbot Homes, a house for people with a history of alcohol abuse. The managing body was the Padley Group Management Council, established in 1990 (shortened to Padley Council in 1992, when The Padley Group became a limited company). It met twice a year, and was made up of representatives of the various Christian denominations in Derby, the County and City Councils, and the Southern Derbyshire Health Authority. The Anglicans were represented by members of the Derby Cathedral Council and the CSR. The Padley Group Executive Committee took decisions on behalf of the Group, and included the heads of the various advisory/project committees. |
