Administrative History | Tintwistle, formerly part of Cheshire, lay within Ashton under Lyne Poor Law Union, which, under the Public Health Act 1872 acted as a Rural Sanitary District, exercising certain responsibilities relating to Public Health. In 1894, Tintwistle was designated a Rural District Council by the Local Government Act of that year. It became part of High Peak District Council when local government was reorganised and Rural District Councils abolished in 1974. |
