Administrative History
Derby Borough has held the rights of markets since at least 1204 and possibly earlier. The Market Hall was built 1864-1866, and there have also been markets for livestock, fish and wholesale, as well as Morledge and Allenton markets. See 18/1 for the Cattle Market Committee minutes 1859-1864. Originally known as Market Committee it became Markets Committee in Sep 1871.
