Administrative History | The Old Chapel (Unitarian) traces its beginnings to the presbyterian chapel built at Grindlow in 1696, and attracted members from Malcoff (Chinley), Bradwell, Buxton and Ashford-in-the-Water. The first minister was William Bagshawe, (known as the 'apostle of the Peak') who had been ejected from his ministry at Eyam following the Act of Uniformity of 1662. A new chapel was built c.1786. A vestibule and gallery was added in 1901. From 1981 members of the Old Chapel began to attend the Uniterian Chapel. |
