Administrative History
The printing and stationery business of Benjamin Rhodes was founded in 1853 at 22 King William Street, Ironville. His son-in-law Philip Sharplin succeeded him and on Philip’s death in 1893, the business was continued by his widow Selina and then their daughter Lily Rhodes Sharplin. The printing side of the business had stopped by about 1920, although Lily widened the range of goods for sale as “newsagent and stationer”. George Philip Sharplin ran a printer’s and bookbinder’s business. A grand-daughter of Philip and Selina Sharplin married a Castledine.
