Archive CreatorEyre family of Hassop, earls of Newburgh
Administrative HistoryThe Eyre family were established landowners in the Peak District from the late Middle Ages onwards. In 1814 Francis Eyre of Hassop (1762-1827) claimed, though his mother, the title of 6th Earl of Newburgh. His son and grandson perpetuated this claim becoming, successively, 7th and 8th Earls of Newburgh.
Custodial HistoryThese estate records, of the time of the 7th Earl of Newburgh, were deposited in the Record Office in January 1995.
