Administrative History | The Eyre family were established landowners in the Peak District from the late Middle Ages onwards. In 1814 Francis Eyre of Hassop (1762-1827) claimed, though his mother, the title of 6th Earl of Newburgh. His son and grandson perpetuated this claim becoming, successively, 7th and 8th Earls of Newburgh. |
