Administrative History
A School Board for the districts of Chinley, Bugsworth (Buxworth) and Brownside was formed in 1883. The Board took over the running of elementary schools in Chinley and Bugsworth. Control of these schools passed to the County Council Education Committee in 1903, and thereafter they were administered by the Chinley and Bugsworth Council Schools Managers.
Custodial History
These records were deposited at the Record Office by Chinley Parish Council in January 1979. They were not accessioned until 1994. The letter book for 1896-1902 (ref: D3974/8/5) was donated in April 2019, and filled the gap in the original series.
