Administrative History | Stanley Common, originally Wesleyan Methodist Church, Belper Road which opened in April 1887. The church closed down in 1966 on amalgamation with Smalley Common. The building was sold in 1969.
The United Benefice of West Hallam, Stanley, Stanley Common and Mapperley (also known as WSSM Churches Together) was established in 2009 when the six churches in thr four villages signed a covenant after many years of ecumenial work together. The six churches were: • Anglican Church of St Wilfrid and West Hallam Methodist Church, West Hallam • Anglican Church of St Andrew and Stanley Methodist Church, Stanley (Stanley Methodist Church closed in April 2015) • United Church of All Saints, a combined Anglican/Methodist Church, Stanley Common • Anglican Church of the Holy Trinity, Mapperley |
Custodial History | These records were deposited by the Ilkeston Methodist Circuit in April 1976 and re-accessioned from D1627 in April 1994. A further deposit was received from the Erewash Valley Methodist Circuit in October 2012. The marriage registers (D3949/6/2-3) were deposited by the United Benefice of West Hallam, Stanley, Stanley Common and Mapperley in February 2022. D3949/7/1 was donated in April 2024 by a member of the public who had purchased a collection of miscellaneous manuscripts at auction which he later found to include this item - the lots, described as 'bundle of papers' included items relating to other counties as well, only the Derbyshire items were donated. Other papers related to Derbyshire can be found under reference D1898, D6730/11-12, DA/FE/S/3 and DA/T/SNOR/1903. |
