Hope Woodlands Methodist Chapel
Administrative History
There is a long-standing tradition of non-conformity in the Woodlands area in Hope dating back to the reign of Charles II. The Wesleyan Methodists had a strong presence from the early period of Methodist history. A Wesleyan Chapel was built near Alport Bridge in the Woodlands valley in the parish of Hope in 1868, the site being given by the Duke of Devonshire who also me the cost of its erection. The chapel was originally in the Bradwell Wesleyan Circuit
A special service was held every first Sunday in July and known as the Woodlands Lovefeast. It was held by the Wesleyan Methodists at the Lovefeast Barn at Alport Castles Farm
