Administrative History | The Railway Servants' Orphanage was situated in Ashbourne Road, Derby and later became St Christopher's. At the outbreak of the Second World War, the whole orphanage was evacuated to Pilsley, but this proved inappropriate, and 60 Senior boys were relocated to Park Lodge at Fritchley in early November 1939. By April 1940, the remainder of the children had relocated to Foston Hall. Several boys who attended Derby School were evacuated with their classmates to Ashover. |
Custodial History | These records were held by Derby and South Derbyshire Area Education Office and transferred to Derbyshire Record Office in July 1988 as part of accession number D1458. They were re-accessioned in October 1993. |
