Archive CreatorGreat Northern Railway Company (1846-1923)
Administrative HistoryThe Great Northern Railway (GNR) was incorporated in 1846 with the object of building a line from London to York. The headquarters of the railway were at Kings Cross, London. Following the Railways Act of 1921, the company was succeeded in 1923 by the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER).

These letters and plans appear to have been sent to R Nesfield of Castle Hill, Bakewell. It seems that he was acting as the agent for the Duke of Rutland in this transaction, which involved land in the Ilkeston area.
Custodial HistoryThese records were transferred from Nottingham Archives Office in November 1992.
