Administrative History
Allestree St Edmund's Church of England School was built in 1856 as a National School. There were 2 departments, mixed and infants. These records refer to the mixed department until about 1912 and thereafter to the whole school. The school closed in 1975.
The headmaster between 1912 and February 1914 was Arthur Haslam Barlow, the son of an official at the Staveley Coal and Iron Company. He was killed in action with the Notts and Derby Regiment at Gallipoli in August 1915 (First World War).
Custodial History
These records were deposited in Derbyshire Record Office by the daughter of the last clerk of the school in October 1992. The admission register 1948-1975 (D3660/2/2) had originally been transferred by Derbyshire County Council: South Derbyshire Divisional [Education] Executive under reference D1458 and were re-accessioned in October 1993.
