A plaque accompanying the bell reads "bell from the original mill building of Sir Richard Arkwright & Company, Matlock. Maker George Hedderley, Nottingham, 1785. Intactum Sileo. Percute Dulce Cano". The bell was originally on top of the building. Photograph number: R279. Photographer: A. N. Smith of 10 Pingle Lane, Belper.
