Archive CreatorShirebrook Board School, later Shirebrook Junior Mixed, later Carter Lane School
Administrative HistoryThe first school in Shirebrook was the National School, which opened in 1852. In 1896 it became a Board School for both boys and girls, and new premises were built in Carter Lane. In 1902 the school was reorganised into separate Boys and Girls Departments. The Girls School became a Junior Girls School in 1930, but in 1953 was re-organised again to become a Junior Mixed School. The school, also known as Carter Lane School, ceased to exist when it closed permanently in 1984.
Custodial HistoryThese records were transferred to Derbyshire Record Office in August 1984 and May 2006. Other records deposited in March 1971 and originally catalogued under reference D785 were recatalogued into this collection in June 2025. Ownership passed to Derbyshire County Council when the school ceased to exist.
