| Title | Emma J Longsdon at Manchester to Fanny |
| Date | 15 Sep 1852 |
| Description | father and she glad to hear intended so soon returning to England. Father looks well, perhaps better than really is. She knows probably that he is a very great deal from home but as moving about is not irksome to him, pretty well satisfied though does leave writer a good deal to herself. Had many visitors and good weather. Father enjoyed trip to America, though serious disappointment not to see her brother and to her it was a most bitter one, but it will be amply atoned for as dear Charlie is to spend the winter with them - will certainly be here in December. Had a brilliant Haddon soirée this year - attended by Dukes of Devonshire and Rutland each with a large party - plenty of dancing and beautiful illuminations. Writer's father being away she went with friends from Bakewell and enjoyed it very much. Next week father and writer had honour of invitation to Chatsworth - never saw it look so beautiful - entertained with delightful music and most glorious illuminations of the fountains and waterworks of every kind in the gardens. |
