| Title | John Longsdon, Manchester to James Longsdon junior, Ashford |
| Date | 7 Oct 1818 |
| Description | Hopes young mare is now quite sound and free from cough in which case consider her writer's; will pay James price agreed on. Will pay her keep at moderate rate and consider James' attention to her act of kindness. Would like mare in Manchester. So if James likes to ride her over on Saturday and return till Monday would not cost much - about 8/- or 9/- by mail. If James does not want to come, please ask Thomas Gardam whether he would like to ride her over when he comes. Mr William Orr requests accommodation with about £150 in money or Bankers Bills towards 20th of this month which he would repay by accepting draft on self at 3 months date. Told him James could accommodate him and would be happy to return favour he recently granted him. Imagines James is about now receiving his ley money - and could spare £150 towards 20th. If so inform writer if he will arrange for its repayment with interest without inconvenience to James. Bring money when James rides over - reach Mr Addison by their 1 o'clock dinner. Hopes tables arrived safely and that James like them. Kate enjoying visit to Mrs Pilkington - useful copying letter for John. Thomas Gardam seems to have been very ill used by the Broomheads. Trust he will get the £800 and then make the best of his way hither. Spoke last night with Mr Mason. Peter uncertain about coming into Derbyshire. Told writer folks at Strangeways began to quake, their attorney having refused to defend the action, another to whom they applied being unable to raise money for it. If James sees Thomas Gardom tell him writer will write to him by Mr Mason, that he does not mean to be in Derbyshire at present, many affairs requiring writer's presence in Manchester. Give writer's love to his Father and Mother. James to write to writer at Gardom Pares & Co by Saturday's morning Mail unless he can come over. |
