Administrative History	A chapel was begun in 1657 and probably completed in 1666. lt was dedicated to Charles, King and Martyr. A new church was built in 1878 and the chapel was demolished. As the chapel had no parochial responsibilities and was not subject to the Bishop's authority, the minister could grant marriage licences and the chapel became popular for speedy marriages often involving partners who did not belong to the area. The granting of licences to people living outside the area was stopped in 1804. Probate could also be granted by the Minister until 1857 when probate became a civil rather than ecclesiastical matter.
