Administrative HistoryThe list was made under Act of 6 and 7 William and Mary c6 imposing duties on marriages, births, burials, bachelors and widowers; persons in receipt of alms were exempt. In addition, a tax was levied on certain ranks (from Duke to gentlemen) and on owners of property worth £50 pa or of £600 personal estate.
