Articles of agreement made between 1 Ellis Hallom of Doveholes, Chapel en le Frith, miner, William Carrington of Ashton Clough, Glossop, yeoman. William Bennet of Whitehough, Chapel en le Frith yeoman and John Mottram of Stockport, Cheshire, servantman. 2 John Shallcross of Shallcross esq. Recites that John Hutchenson of Stainsborough [Callow] gent on 28 Sept 1709 leased limestone, greetstone [?kind of freestone, rough stone] and slate quarries within the Queen’s waste ground within jurisdiction of the Chapel en le Frith court to Ellis Hallom for 21 years and Hallom on 6 Mar 1713/4 assigned the lease to Carrington, Bennet and Mottram in respect of 3/4 of the stone etc. 1 agree that 2 may hold premises leased in Sep 1709 specified as mill and greetstone quarries in Kinder and in the Scout, setting lime kilns and getting limestone on land in Shallcross’s possession, “the Barms” and the Stonebench in Fairfield, greetstone and slate quarries in common etc formerly called the Kings waste grounds within ½ mile of the great road over Buxton Moor from Stone-bench to Elnor Lane Head. Rents given.
