Administrative History	Upon the death of Charles Harpur-Crewe in 1981 the new owner of Calke Abbey (built 1701-1703 for Sir John Harpur, 4th Baronet), Henry Harpur Crewe faced a capital transfer tax bill of £8 million. Following a campaign, led by 'SAVE Britain's Heritage' the government allowed Calke Abbey to be transferred into the custody of the National Trust.
Custodial History	These records were deposited in Derbyshire Record Office in June 1990
