Description
This box mainly contains correspondence, papers and printed material relating to women emigrating to South Africa and Rhodesia. Mrs. Edith Lyttelton Gell was chair of the Rhodesian Sub committee of the South African Expansion Committee, part of the British Women's Emigration Association or South African Colonisation Society, an organisation that helped `suitable' women to emigrate to parts of the British Empire. Mrs. Edith Lyttelton Gell was also involved in other organisations dealing with emigration of women to South Africa, which are also represented in this box
