Articles of agreement prior to the marriage of George Iliffe and Ann Smith, between Thomas Iliffe of Clipston, yeoman, and George Iliffe his eldest son and Thomas Smith of Clipston, husbandman, reciting that whereas Thomas Iliffe is resolved to give his son George a messuage or cottage with barn, outhouses, orchard and backside in Newbold, purchased of John Waple before the marriage, Iliffe now agrees with Smith to give the messuage to his son, and if Ann outlives him then she shall have possession of the messuage for life: (in return) Smith agrees to pay £30 for her marriage portion. Dated 8 April
