| Administrative History | There were several charities attached to the parish of Parwich:
Beresford’s Charity: set up in 1695 to provide money for Protestant church services and sermons, the education of eight poor children and distribution of alms to the poor.
Alsopp’s Charity and Jackson’s Charity: related charities, set up in 1778 to provide money for Protestant church services and sermons and distribution of alms to the poor.
Brinkcliff’s Charity and Roe’s Charity: related charities, set up in 1788 to provide money for distribution of alms to the poor.
Johnson’s Charity: set up in 1800, using the trustees of Beresford's Charity, to provide money for distribution of alms to the poor.
In the twentieth century, the above charities were amalgamated to form Parwich United Charities.
The Beresford Charity came to be registered under two separate entries in the Register of Charities: number 527089, the Beresford Educational Foundation and number 216917, the William Beresford Charity (Exclusive of Beresford Educational Foundation). These were removed from the register as no longer operational in 2009 and 2001 respectively. |
| Custodial History | The records were deposited in July 1987. A further accession was added to the collection in September 2025, re-accessioned from D7774. |
