Date1811-1957
DescriptionFrom 1925 meetings are described as meetings or joint meetings of the vestry and parochial church meeting. In the 19th century the vestry dealt with both church and civil parish matters, but from the end of the 19th century only with church affairs. The minute book records the appointment of churchwardens, including the nomination of the vicar's warden, throughout and, though not consistently, the appointment of the parish clerk, the beadle and sexton, sidesmen, lay representatives to ruridecanal and archidiaconal conferences, overseers of the poor, surveyors of highways, Burial Board auditors. The minutes record the authorisation of church rates and passing of churchwardens' accounts. Included are references to new galleries in the church 1829, 1834; possible formation of a Board of Health 1832; new parochial assessment under new Poor Law Act 1837; formation of a Burial Board and its operation from 1853 including a table of fees; proposal to unite St Michael's parish with the parish of All Saints 1885. At the front are memoranda concerning the appointment of churchwardens, parish clerk and beadle and the duties of a beadle. At the back are churchwardens' and overseers' accounts 1801-1837 and overseers' accounts1837 -1843.
