Administrative History
The Chesterfield Gas and water Company was incorporated in 1825 to supply these utilities. Reservoirs were constructed at Linacre to help provide the water supply. It was taken over in 1896 by the Chesterfield Gas and Water Board, consisting of Chesterfield Borough Council and the Urban District Councils of Newbold-cum-Dunston and Whittington. This was in turn absorbed into the Chesterfield and Bolsover Water Board in 1933
