Administrative History | The Cromford Canal was completed in 1794. It ran southwards from Cromford to the Erewash Canal at Langley Bridge, via Ambergate, Ripley and Pye Hill, with a branch route to Pinxton. The canal was purchased by the Manchester, Buxton, Matlock & Midland Junction Railway by an act of incorporation in July 1846, with the company taking possession of the route in 1852. |
