Description | The Wirksworth Country Club was set up in November 1936 as 'a social club for ladies and gentlemen interested in travel, literature and sport'. Mr R P Mooney of Derby was elected as first Chairman, and the club opened in leased premises in the Memorial Hall, St John Street, Wirksworth, on 27 March 1937. It continued until 27 February 1952 when the club disbanded following unsuccessful negotiations over renewal of its lease. |
